Strong Families = Strong Canada
Jim Hnatiuk — Leader, CHP Canada
Communiqué Vol. 18, No. 12, Mar 22, 2011
The childcare ‘problem’ is frequently stated as “a need for day-care spaces.” That is, indeed, something many families need, but it is not the major problem.
Canada desperately needs government policies that strengthen families. Daycare fills a short-term need, but it weakens families. Most social science research now confirms that institutional daycare—even the best of it—actually hurts children and families. And surveys show that three out of four mothers (in some cases it’s dad) who work outside the home—the very ones who use daycare—would rather be at home with their children if they could afford it. Instead, they have to ‘warehouse’ their children so they can take a job outside the home, to help pay the family’s ever-increasing tax burden, caused by excessive government spending.
Think back to when you were at school. For those of us who grew up in a time when Canada’s families were stronger and more stable, mom was the heart of the home; she was always there when we got home from school.
CHP Canada’s plan of reduced government spending, along with lowering taxes and introducing the CHP’s “Family-Friendly Childcare Allowance” will allow parents to make that choice.
And when two million families choose to have one parent in each of their households leave the workforce to stay home with the children—to provide nurture, care and stability—that would open up two million existing jobs, putting currently unemployed Canadians back to work! The corresponding reduction in EI and welfare payouts would be enough to cover the cost of the “Family-Friendly Childcare Allowance!” It’s a win-win for parents and taxpayers—and especially for Canadian families and children!
The CHP believes in stronger families and we’re going to be true to our word. Our childcare allowance will provide $1000 per month to any family where one of the parents chooses to stay home and raise their children—until age 18—unlike the current Tory policy of $100 per month for children under six years old. The Liberal, NDP and BQ parties are committed to increasing the public sector control of child-care by making taxpayers subsidize more and more institutional daycare—the very kind that research shows is harmful to young children! And they have no problem increasing taxpayers’ debt burden to do it.
Demographics don’t lie, Canada needs more children, and children need their family intact. Instead, our Government, to our detriment, is flooding our nation with uncontrolled immigration.
It’s time that Canada had a political party that understands and is willing to address through good policy, the need to strengthen the family. We need policies that will help to address the brokenness of Canada’s homes, bring healing and wholeness to families, help children to thrive, and really bring solutions to the biggest reason for child poverty—broken homes.
The CHP’s “Family-Friendly Childcare Allowance” will help do just that.
The CHP plan will be good for families and good for Canada.
CHP Canada needs your support (link to donations) today! We do not receive political subsidies as do the big parties but we do promise much better solutions! Thank you in advance for your generous contribution!
It’s Time to Take Back Canada!
