Russian Orthodox Church urges nationwide ban on ‘promotion of homosexuality’

MOSCOW — A leading official in the Russian Orthodox Church has urged federal lawmakers to adopt a bill outlawing what he called the promotion of homosexuality among minors.

Similar legislation approved late February in Russia’s second largest city, St. Petersburg, mandated fines of up to $33,000.

Father Dmitry Pershin, head of the church’s youth council, said Monday in a statement that the law should be applied nationwide “without delay.”

Gay rights activists say the law could be used to ban any public demonstrations by Russia’s embattled gay and transgender community.

Homosexuality was decriminalized in Russia in 1993, but anti-gay sentiments remain strong.

The Orthodox Church, which was heavily suppressed in Soviet times, has exercised a growing influence on public policy in Russia.

We are finally getting some push-back victories.

It appears FRI will be able to launch an important attack on the US gay weapons manufacturer and depot [e.g., the APA and its allies] this Spring.

As I recall, Fr Pershin was among the church leaders with whom I met in 2008. I encouraged them to work to ban all gay parades, 'education', etc. Also I emphasized how important it was to also ban teachers who engaged in homosexuality -- that is still in the wings, but is a logical 'next step.' At the time they and the political leaders I spoke with thought both were impossible given the pressure of the EU and USA.

Hail Russia, hail the Orthodox!

This is encouraging that somewhere in the world apart from the tyrannical & repressive regimes governing bodies aren't afraid to stand for truth. Speaking as someone who is involved in trying getting the absolute truth out to those who will listen, homosexuality was,is and always will be harmful to one's health.

The news out of much of Eastern Europe is encouraging. Many folks from the east, see the moral corruption and political correctness for what it is and they want nothing to do with it. Thank you for working so hard to get the truth out about homosexuality and transvestism. You have some big fans here at FNA! blessyou

I agree with my husband Ebedmelech, I admire your courage for speaking out the truth about the ill effects of homosexuality.
